Vodice has long been on the map of the best cycle tourism destinations in Croatia. It’s an excellent starting point for:
Whether you are an experienced professional or a recreational cyclist, you will undoubtedly take pleasure in exploring and discovering Vodice and its pleasant surroundings from the seat of your own or rented bicycle. And the best part is that thanks to the mild Mediterranean climate and countless sunny hours, you can enjoy it on two wheels all year round.
Cycling trails in this area will lead you along the paths of local farmers, vineyards, olive trees, wells, and dry-stone walls, as well as archaeological sites and ancient churches. The excellent panoramic photo can be taken from the Okit and Velika Mrdakovica hills. From there, you can enjoy the view of the cities Vodice, Šibenik, Zaton, as well as Velebit and Dinara Mountains or the islands of the Šibenik archipelago. Also, Velika Mrdakovica hill hides Liburnian-Roman settlement – probably Ptolemy’s Arausona, which dates from eight to seven Century BC. Beneath the hill, there is a Roman cistern where you can take a rest from pedaling.
On-bike, you can get to the banks of Prokljan Lake where the water of the river Krka mixes with the sea. Thanks to that, the lake area’s gastronomic offer is rich in authentic local dishes like an eel or freshwater anchovies. If you decide to go north, you can reach Vrana Lake Nature Park by bicycle. At this place, you can feel the energy of water – the mighty sea on one side and the largest Croatian natural lake on the other. Furthermore, this is a great place to take a peek in and listen to the world of birds.
On a mountain bike trail called Orlov Krug (Eagle Circle), you can find an unforgettable experience with a dose of adrenaline. It has been the World MTB XCO Cup route for 20 years and is one of the most demanding and impressive MTB trails in Croatia. Bicycle tracks by the sea are also attractive. We recommend a light route that will take you to Tribunj – a charming small town located on an island and connected to the mainland by a bridge. And if you can’t get enough, then board your bike on the local boat line and visit Prvić. There you can get to know the life and notable work of the inventor of the parachute – Faust Vrančić.
There are plenty of possible options, and you just have to select one of the tracks below and get started:
Besides Vodice, there are many cycling tracks in the Šibenik-Knin County that allow you to enjoy the natural beauty and cultural and historical monuments. If you seek a slightly diverse experience and want to explore this area on two wheels, come and visit Vodice.
